Gollabhama Saree - Border Motif - Mercerised Cotton - Beige with Red Border
Native to Siddipet in Telangana, the Gollabhama saree is rich in colours and high on comfort! An integral part of the cultural reclamation of the Telangana identity, these sarees are globally famous, and have the Geographical Indication Tag.
They get their name from the decorative motifs that are used –
the gollabhama (milkmaid) which refer to women of Golla community. Typically,
three motifs are used for saree designs, namely – Gollabhama, the milk maid,
Bathukamma, a lady carrying the flower decked offerings for the Bathukamma
festival, and Kolatam, a form of dance with sticks. These sarees are often in a
single colour dotted with small gollabhama butas throughout the fabric, while
the larger intricate motifs are showcased on the border and/or pallu.
